I’ve been working from home for years − together with my wife. During that time, we’ve tested a lot of setups, replaced plenty of things, and learned what truly matters.
Some purchases were real game changers, others turned out to be complete mistakes. Today, I know exactly which items make my home office more comfortable, productive, and enjoyable.
Here are the seven things I wouldn’t want to work without anymore.
1. Height-Adjustable Desk – More Comfort, Less Back Pain

I’ve always struggled with desk height. Sometimes it was too high, sometimes too low − and you really feel that after a few hours. A height-adjustable desk* completely solved this problem.
I can sit comfortably in the morning and switch to standing later in the day with just a button press. It takes pressure off my back and makes working far more comfortable overall.
2. Ergonomic Office Chair – A Chair for Life

At the beginning, I made the mistake of buying cheap chairs and replacing them regularly. At some point, I’d had enough. A high-quality ergonomic office chair* is not only better for your back, but it also lasts much longer.
As a taller person, I need a stable chair that doesn’t start failing after a few months. A good chair* is an investment that truly pays off.
3. Second Monitor − Productivity on a Whole New Level

Getting a second monitor* was a real game changer for me. No more constantly switching between programs and browser tabs. I can work on one screen while researching, writing, or managing spreadsheets on the other. It saves time − and a lot of frustration.
(Although I’ll admit, sometimes a video ends up playing on the second screen… but let’s ignore that for now.)
4. Proper Lighting – Especially on Dark Days

Especially in winter or on gloomy days, you really notice how important good lighting is. Working in dim light? Not an option. I rely on multiple light sources in my home office − from a desk lamp* to indirect lighting*. This creates a much more pleasant atmosphere and makes working far more relaxing for the eyes.
5. Whiteboard – Capturing Ideas Instantly

I never expected to use my whiteboard* as much as I do. When an idea comes up, I can write it down immediately instead of searching for a piece of paper. It’s perfect for quick thoughts, to-do lists, and spontaneous ideas. And best of all: no more losing random notes.
6. Bluetooth Keyboard – Flexible and Comfortable Typing

Since switching to a Bluetooth keyboard*, working feels noticeably more comfortable. Especially when using a laptop, it was a life-changing upgrade − I can place the screen further away and avoid sitting hunched over it.
With multiple monitors, it makes an even bigger difference, allowing me to type more flexibly without constantly adjusting my posture.
7. Ergonomic Mouse – Your Wrists Will Thank You

An ergonomic mouse* may seem like a small change, but it makes a big difference − especially for our “smartphone generation”. It reduces strain on the wrist and makes working for long periods much more comfortable.
These are my seven must-haves for working from home. Some of them I discovered over time, others I wish I had bought much earlier. One thing is certain, though: without them, my workday simply wouldn’t feel the same anymore.
